Chiang Mai governor Suriya Prasatbandit yesterday received two tons of the fruit donated by farmers, local residents and the abbot of Wat Phra That Doi Suthep.

The longans were packed in boxes of 10kg each and were set to be delivered free of charge today by Thai Airways to government officers and others working in the three southernmost provinces of Yala, Narathiwat and Songkhla.

The Longan Charity from North to South Project was set up to dedicate merit to Her Majesty the Queen and show the kindness of longan farmers towards people in the south.
