CityNews – A poverty-stricken Chiang Mai family have appealed for help in caring for their brain-damaged daughter, who has been left bedridden and unable to talk since a road accident in 2010.

Nineteen-year-old Reeyanan Janthornmaneechot was riding a motorcycle with a friend seated behind her when they were hit by a car. Her friend was only slightly injured, but Reeyanan hit her head on the ground and part of her skull caved in.
Since then she has been only semi-conscious, and her parents Suwan, 54, and Sriwan, 50, of Samoeng’s Samoengtai sub-district care for her around the clock. They told CityNews that her condition has improved, but they don’t earn enough to pay for her medical care.
The car driver paid 100,000 baht in compensation and helped with medical fees and transport costs, but the money went in the first year after the accident.
Reeyanan’s parents now have to pay 2,000 baht for new medical equipment every four months, as well as food, medicine and transport costs.
However, their income is not enough to pay for these expenses. They have even dismantled their house, selling the teak walls and replacing them with cheaper material to raise money for their daughter’s care.
The family has received funds for disable people from the mayor of Samoengtai municipality, Suwan Saengprasit, who has also helped to collect money from local temples.
