Coffee Growers go Head to Head in Competition

CityNews – The Industrial Promotion Centre Region 1 held a conference to preview the upcoming ASEAN Coffee Industry Development Conference 2018.

A conference was held today, August 7th, by the Industrial Promotion Centre Region 1 at the Empress Hotel Chiang Mai to preview The 1st ASEAN Coffee Industry Development Conference 2018 (ACID 2018) which will be held on November from 22nd to 25th.

Earlier this year, the Industrial Promotion Centre Region 1 also provided an opportunity to farmers across northern Thailand to have their coffee beans graded by the Q Grader Certified. The highest scored coffee beans from that project was announced at the conference today, which is Ban Khun Chang Kian’s coffee who has scored 84.5 points.

ACID 2018 has also been hosting the first Thailand Excellent Coffee Competition. The final 11 candidates was announced earlier this month with six of the samples coming from Chiang Mai and five from Chiang Rai.

ACID 2018 is an initiative founded to enhance and promote the coffee industry in ASEAN for the global market.

At the conference today, the highest scored coffee bean was announced which is Ban Khun Chang Kian’s coffee who has scored 84.5 points. The winner of the competition, however, will be announced at the ACID 2018.

With over 200 people participating, the conference held two panel discussions under the topic of ‘Chiang Mai Coffee Lifestyle’ and ‘Strengths and Weaknesses of Chiang Mai Coffee and Trends of the Global Market’.

ACID 2018 has also opened study courses; Roasting foundation, Brewing foundation and Sensory skills foundation taught by experts from Torch Coffee Lab. For more information please visit http://aseancoffeeconference.com/
