Chiang Mai Public Passenger Routes Reorganized to Reduce Traffic

CityNews – It was announced on Wednesday, July 22, that Chiang Mai will have its public passenger routes reorganized in order to relieve growing traffic congestion in the city.

From August 1, the mass transit system in Chiang Mai will have new routes. This was a result of cooperation between concerned agencies, according to Chiang Mai governor Suriya Prasartbandit, whose aim is to improve the current traffic situation by relieving congestion and encouraging citizens to use public transport instead of cars.

The new routes are:

1. Chiang Mai University-Three Kings Monument-Kad Luang- Arcade Bus Terminal

2. Huay Kaew Road-Kad Suan Kaew Mall-Chang Phuak Bus Station-Kad Luang-Train station-Arcade Bus Terminal

3. Chang Phuak Bus Station-Tha Phae-Chiang Mai International Airport 

4. Chang Phuak Bus Station-Nimmanhaemin-Suan Dok-Chiang Mai International Airport 

5. Chang Phuak Bus Station-Central Festival Mall-Promenada Mall-Chiang Mai International Airport 

6. Chang Phuak Bus Station-Warorot Market-Suan Dok-Central Airport Plaza- Samoeng Intersection 

7. Chang Phuak Bus Station- Three Kings Monument -Warorot market-Sam Yak Market 

8. Chang Phuak Bus Station-Government Complex-700 Year Stadium-Nakhon Ping Hospital 

9. Chang Phuak Bus Station-Warorot Market-Nong Hoi- Saraphi District Office 

10. Chang Phuak Bus Station-Warorot market-Train Station-Ban Buak Krok 

11. Chang Pguak Bus Station-Night Bazaar- Montfort Primary School- Governor’s Residence- Yupparat School

12. Mae Ya Waterfall-Central Festival Mall-Central Airport Plaza-Pang Suan Kaew-Mae Ya Waterfall (going in both directions) 

There will be 50 songtaew on each of the first 11 routes. According to the municipality, the flat rate should be 20 baht and the vans should operate between the hours of 5 a.m. and 8 p.m.
