Chiang Mai International Airport joined others across Thailand over the weekend in receiving tourists, sans restrictions, for the first time since the start of the pandemic.

One flight from Singapore landed with 160 people, the largest group of international visitors to arrive in over two years. Due to the change in system for arrival, not all passengers had the correct documents on them, leading to some long delays. However authorities say that they are working on better communication and will have the airport up and running in efficient order soon.

In April there were 3,000 international arrivals to Chiang Mai International Airport, while in May there were 6,000, said Wichit Kaewsaitiem, the Director of AOT CNX. He went on to say that in June the number had increased to 12,000.

There are currently international flights between Chiang Mai and Singapore and Kuala Lumpur. Whereas the direct flights to Seoul at this point are chartered.
