Governor of Chiang Mai Nirat Pongsitthaworn led a meeting this week, attended by heads of all relevant departments to announce Chiang Mai’s new strategy to become a ‘Workation Destination’, citing this as our province’s new ‘Soft Power Strategy’.
Buzzwords aside, details are scarce, but according to the governor visas will be issued to facilitate this new strategy with Chinese and interestingly Uzbekistan’s passport holders being offered with free visas first. The aim is to attract more digital nomads and brand Chiang Mai as one of the world’s best ‘Workation Deatibations’. At this point nothing has been implemented. We will keep you posted.
