AirAsia is launching a new daily service to Surat Thani from November 1, reports said this week. In addition to the standard airfares, the carrier will offer land and ferry transfers from Surat Thani to the nearby holiday island of Koh Samui. Special promotional fares are available to travellers who book soon.

Bangkok Airways is also launching new services from Chiang Mai. From October 26 it will operate four flights a week to Yangon, three week to Mandalay, two a day to Udon Thani, and a daily flight from Chiang Mai to Phuket, reports said.

From November 1, it will increase the number of flights from Bangkok to Chiang Rai from two to three per day.

Meanwhile, two privately owned Myanmar carriers – Shwe Myanmar Airlines and Air KBZ – will begin flying between Yangon and Chiang Mai, according to a Myanmar Eleven news report. They said demand was driven by an increasing number of Burmese visiting Chiang Mai.

A Shwe Myanmar Airlines executive said it would fly between the two cities three times a week from today, with a one-way ticket costing US$59 (1,900 baht).

Air KBZ did not give details about when how many flights it would operate a week, or when they would start, but said it was also planning to launch flights between Yangon and the border town of Mae Sot in Tak province.
