Bringing Migrant Workers into the Fold

CityNews – The Minister of Labour followed up on the one-stop service centre (OSS) for Myanmar migrant workers in Chiang Mai.

H.E. Police General Adul Saengsingkaew, Minister of Labour visited the one-stop service centre (OSS) for Myanmar migrant workers, Chiang Mai, on January 31st to follow up on the performance since the opening on September 2017. The centre has approved 57,143 migrant workers since it opened, with an approximate 600 people receiving the service daily, which brings the total number of legal migrant workers in Chiang Mai to 151,470, working for under 40,119 employees.

Chiang Mai reportedly holds the highest number of work permit registration in the North of Thailand followed by Lamphun, Mae Hong Son, Lampang and Chiang Rai, with Thailand – Myanmar border areas in five districts including Mae Ai, Fang, Chiang Dao, Wiang Haeng and Chai Prakan.

H.E. Pol. Gen. Adul revealed that within approximate 120,000 Myanmar migrants registered at the OSS centre, there are only 20,000 Myanmar migrants left with unverified nationality which he expects to be processed within a couple of months. However, the report estimates the number of migrants in Chiang Mai at 300,000 from Myanmar, 400,000 from Cambodia and about 100,000 from Lao.
