Wat Nong Bua Rong in Korat’s Muang district made the distinctive waxworks to celebrate the World Cup, including a replica of the Fifa trophy made from golden wax, according to reports.

The trophy and figures of players standing up to 2.5 metres tall, all sculpted from wax, will feature in the annual giant candle procession marking the beginning of Buddhist Lent in Nakhon Ratchasima city on Saturday.

The World Cup final will be played in Rio de Janeiro on July 13, the day after Khao Phansa, the start of Buddhist Lent.
