CityNews – A “Bike and Walk Rally” around Chiang Mai will be held next month to encourage historical tourism. The event is being organised by the Chiang Mai College of Arts, Media and Technology, which aims to expand people’s knowledge of Chiang Mai’s history through activities and modern technology.
It has developed ways to portray the city’s vibrant history using the latest technologies and app design. Its app, available on Android devices and online, includes a map of Chiang Mai that allows users to explore the city’s historic temples on a 360-degree 3D platform. The temples include Wat Prah Sing, Wat Jed Jod and Wat Suan Dok. The app also contains suggested walking, cycling and boat routes.
Participants in the rally will compete by finding questions and answers hidden around the city using the new app. Prizes include a Samsung Galaxy 5S and two tickets for a return flight to Bangkok.
Teams can be no more than two people and must come equipped with a bicycle and a phone or tablet that can run the app.
The Bike and Walk Rally will take place on Sunday, August 3, from 7am. It will begin at the Three Kings Monument in the Old City.
An app training program is available the day before (August 2) for anyone wanting to learn how to use the app prior to the competition, but is not compulsory.
More information and contact details can be found on the college’s Facebook page or (in Thai) at www.chiangmaihistory.com.
