CityNews – Officials from the Ministry of Justice recently visited The Cabin Chiang Mai to learn more about how to treat youths with addiction problems.
The Cabin, a drug and alcohol addiction treatment centre, is regularly asked to provide training to Thai authorities, staff say. The Juvenile Observation and Protection Centre in Bangkok approached it after seeing an increase in the number of young inmates with addiction problems.
Programme director Alastair Mordey gave a presentation in which he discussed the common types of addiction in Thai youth, and how addiction is effectively treated with psychotherapy in the West.
He then explained The Cabin’s treatment model, which combines cognitive behavioural therapy, a secularised version of the 12-steps method, mindfulness and exercise therapy, and other treatments.
The officials said they would adapt what they had learned during the visit, according to organisers.
