396 Cases of Influenza in Chiang Mai Schools Alerts Authorities

CityNews – A surge of the influenza virus has spread across Chiang Mai schools and nurseries with almost 400 cases found this January.

The Office of Disease Prevention and Control Region 1, Chiang Mai revealed on January 31st that there has been 396 influenza cases reported in Chiang Mai since January 16th which is ranked the highest number among eight provinces in upper north Thailand. There is no current report of any deaths.

Tassanai Buranupakorn the mayor of Chiang Mai announced the policy to help prevent the spread of the flu which has now been enforced in 12 child development centres across the Chiang Mai municipality area.

The policy asks for teachers to closely observe students every morning, and if they suspect any are showing flu-like symptoms, have them taken home to see doctor. The municipality also provided hand wash gels and face masks for many schools in the area he help prevent the virus spreading.
