With air pollution levels rising to hazardous levels, authorities are handing out 200,000 N95 masks to people in 99 communities across the city.

In total 100,000 masks will be delivered to the elderly, pregnant women and people with health risks, totaling around 32,000 people – or three masks each.

There will also be six spots across the city where the public can go to pic up masks, including the Public Health Office.

Assanee Buranupakorn, Mayor of Chiang Mai city, said that the municipality is doing all it can (the municipality is responsible for the 40 square kilometre muang district only) that it can, including spraying water across the city, setting up clean air spaces for the public across schools and government buildings, totaling 30 to date. It has also made deals with 100 restaurants to ensure clean air on premises
