CityNews – We recently reported a story about a 13-year-old boy racking up a phone bill of over 200,000 baht, but that will seem cheap compared to the news of a 14 million baht phone bill that a businessman received.
The businessman, who has withheld his name, had been using data roaming services while travelling overseas for the last month. He had to restart his phone many times due to several system failures, which the mobile operator believes could have accidentally tampered with the roaming services and thus have led to the massive phone bill.
“He wasn’t made aware of the charges when his smartphone had a problem, and it’s impossible that he could have run up a 14 million baht bill,” said National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) secretary-general Takorn Tantasith.
The NBTC will be meeting with representatives of Google’s Play Store and representatives of major mobile operators to try and cap a 1,000 baht limit on purchases of mobile content.
