CityNews – Chiang Mai Municipality has taken steps to clear public footpaths around the city by removing 13 advertising billboards that obstruct pedestrians.

The mayor of the municipality has ordered the removal of 13 billboards along Nimmanhaemin Road and the old city moat, reports say.
Authorities gave a seven-day deadline, which expires today, to remove the billboards. Reports say workers will start removing them today.
The orders were given with the aim of returning footpaths to pedestrians and tourists, after officials discovered that the billboards did not have proper authorisation.
The owners have been asked to respect the law and work together to remove obstructing billboards, but officials warned that if they don’t comply the issue would be settled in court.

Many residents have in the past complained about obstacles such as billboards and rubbish bins blocking the pavements on Nimmanhaemin Road.
