Two Arrested for Illegal Burning in Lamphun and Chiang Dao

CityNews – Police and military officers have caught a man who was burning longan leaves while on patrol in Lamphun and a woman burning a garlic plantation in Chiang Dao.

On March 11th, police and military officers caught a man who was burning longan leaves while on patrol in Thung Hua Chang, Lamphun. Boonyung Panganta, a 63 year old man was caught with a lighter in his hand. He confessed and was sent to Thung Hua Chang police station.

Earlier this month on March 8th, the authorities also caught a 43 year old woman, Huilan Saemu who was burning a garlic plantation in Muang Na, Chiang Dao. Superintendent of Pha Daeng National Park said that due to the 51 Days No Burning Policy, there has been officers patrolling the area regularly.

He revealed that more often than not, the people they catch burning claim that they are not aware of the policy, but he verified that they would not accept that as an excuse. He also asked for cooperation from every member of the community as this issue affects the whole society.
