With over three million visitors per year, Wat Rong Khun, or The White Temple, is one of the North’s most acclaimed attractions. Conceptualised and crafted by national artist Chalermchai Kositpipat, this extraordinary piece of art will be turned, for one month only, into a kaleidoscopic fiesta of light.

The media were invited for a sneak peak recently and we were blown away by the experience. Organised by leaders in the regional industry, Index Creative Village, the event has drawn from some of the best talent to be found in the nation; Thailand’s most renowned theatre composer, Sarawut Lertpanyanuch, internationally acclaimed director and choreographer Nipon Wannamahin and entertainment lighting experts LightSoure.

Light will be the night’s storyteller as guests will be taken on a journey from hell to heaven. The vivid stories will be lit up against the backdrop of the sky, against the facade of the temple itself, and against spectacular water features, making for an interactive and thrilling display that organisers promise will use the most cutting edge technology combined with the best of Thai creativity.

“The seats and limited, hurry if you want to be a part of the show and book the tickets today as we will not be extending the show’s time period,” said Kreingkrai Kanjanapokin, Founder and CEO Index Creative Village. “Parts of the proceeds will also go to Chiang Rai’s Prachanukroh Hospital.”

“50 years ago who would have thought that this piece of land would become a remarkable artistic realm recognised and visited by people from around the world?” asked creator, Chalermchai. “I will paint the temple with magic, using advanced multi-coloured light techniques to create sensational phenomena over the sky, waking up the entire city of Chiang Rai with the night’s illumination. I’d like the people of Thailand to be proud of this world class event with highlight performances at our strikingly beautiful temple.”

22nd November until 22nd December 2019.
